The Importance of Choosing You

There are times in life when we must make the decision to put ourselves first. As women we tend to put everyone else’s needs, desires and wants before our own and I am here to tell you, No more!

Not long ago I made a decision that left a few people upset with me. With my need to please, I began to feel bad about the decision I made. During prayer, God had to check me and He unveiled my need for approval and He used this situation as an example.

How often do we allow the thoughts and opinions of others to keep us from doing what we know we should do and what is best for us?

I have been on a journey of intentional healing for some time now and I have learned so much about myself. From my battle with codependency, to overcoming self-hate (which includes constantly putting others before yourself), as well as my longtime struggle with rejection and abandonment.

Here’s what I want you to know today… It’s perfectly okay and past time to CHOOSE YOU!

You will never be able to please everyone therefore, stop trying. Follow peace, obey God and do you! Then allow the chips to fall as they may. This may sound harsh and may feel a little uncomfortable for you but it’s necessary.

Putting yourself first is the highest form of self-love. That means your thoughts, feelings, emotions, dreams and desires matter. They no longer have to take a back seat to the needs/desires of others.

This has been one of the toughest decisions I’ve had to learn as a leader; that it is impossible to please everyone and the person I had been seeking all along was ME.

Wow! So often we grow frustrated in our relationships because what we are seeking others don’t seem to possess and what we should be giving to ourselves, we continue to expect from others.

From them and yourself of that pressure today and choose you by loving and attending to YOU!

Here’s how you can practice choosing YOU today:

  1. Make a decision and stick with it.– No more doublemindedness.
  2. Enforce the word “No”– Stop committing to things you don’t feel called to do.
  3. Pencil yourself in on your daily calendar– Do things that YOU enjoy to do.
  4. Free yourself from the expectations of others- Let it go sis!
  5. Enjoy your life– Shift with the shift and allow the chips to fall as they may.
