How to Start a Business Without Breaking the Bank

Many of us are filled with so many ideas, yet find ourselves lacking the necessary strategy on how to execute the ideas we have. Implementation is the key to experiencing the manifestation of your dreams and goals. Over the last decade, I have assisted people from around the world on how to activate their voice, cultivate their gift and monetize their ideas! Today I want to share a blueprint on how to get started. This beginner’s method will cost you nothing but T-I-M-E. Grab your pen & pad because trust me, you are going to want to take notes! (smile)

To start a business without breaking the bank, you must keep the following in mind:

  1. WHAT DO YOU DESIRE TO DO?
  2. WHO YOU DESIRE TO SERVE?
  3. WHAT PROBLEM DO YOU HELP THEM SOLVE?
  4. WHAT WILL YOU CHARGE IN EXCHANGE FOR THE VALUE YOU PROVIDE?

Let’s break these down…

WHAT DO YOU DESIRE TO DO?– Whenever you are considering to start your own business, it is important to gain clarity on exactly what you desire to do as well as researching who already does it. Now, this part is where many get discouraged because they begin to feel as though there is no room for them in their desired industry. However, this is the furthest from the truth. Knowing who’s who in your industry gives you an advantage, because it allows you to find the leaks within their business model, marketing campaign; etc. This also helps you to identify what market or area they aren’t serving, rather than focusing on the market they are serving.

For example: If I compared myself to other business coaches, I wouldn’t run a successful brand. WHY? Because these days everybody and their mama is a coach. But instead of allowing that to discourage me, I work creatively and diligently to stand out in the market I am called to serve. Most business coaches focus only on the advancement of their client’s business, whereas, I on the other hand, lead my clients through a process to holistic transformation (mind, body, soul, finances, relationships; etc.) which leads to longevity in business. Get my point?

WHO DO YOU DESIRE TO SERVE?– The “who” is just as important as the “do” when it comes to business. Here you want to focus on whether or not your target audience is a particular population, or a specific type of person with a certain struggle that you provide a solution for? Ask yourself, what keeps them up at night, and how your product or service will help them overcome their insomnia. This could fall under relationship matters, anxiety, depression, finances; etc. No matter your passion, there is a space for you and it’s time that you believe it!

WHAT PROBLEM DO YOU HELP THEM SOLVE?– It’s important to view yourself (or the products or services you offer) as a problem solver. Then the key is to market what you help people do, versus what your product is. This is the #1 marketing mistake I see a lot of small business owners make. They are so focused on making a sale without understanding people really don’t like being sold to. I’m sure like me, you have grown tired and downright aggravated with all of these spammers (because that’s what they are) dropping in your messages on Instagram and Facebook and even in your comments trying to promote their business or brand. These are clearly people that are too lazy to do what I’m inviting you to do here. Get clear on the problem you help people solve and in doing so, provide value and they will be asking YOU where they can purchase your product or service. Remember: it’s all about authenticity, vulnerability, consistency and strategy.

WHAT WILL YOU CHARGE IN EXCHANGE FOR THE VALUE YOU PROVIDE?– This is where it gets tricky for a lot of people but I’ll share with you what I tell my students/clients. When starting a business, it’s so important to research the market to learn what others are charging for what you desire to offer. This will give you a competitive edge. However, remember cheaper isn’t always better. It’s more so about effectively communicating the problem your product or service helps others solve.
