As the new year approaches we can often times begin to feel a little anxious while forfeiting the opportunity to focus on the remaining tasks that lie before us.
I believe that 2020 is going to be a great year however, I must be honest and tell you that January 1 is not a magical day.
Often times we psych ourselves up on New Year’s Resolutions that we don’t keep up past February and sometimes even January.
Today I want to share with you 3 Steps to Ending the Year Strong. I must warn you that although they are simple, that doesn’t mean you won’t find them challenging.
(Insider: This is the exact process I do at the end of every year and I teach my clients and students to do the same. Consider this FREE COACHING!)
- Plan out your 2020: In my coaching sessions with my clients and students I lead them in a Vision Mapping Activity that consists of having them break the 12 months down into 4 quarters and set one big goal for each quarter. Weekly goals should consist of activities that lead to that ONE big goal for that particular quarter.
However, first I have them to establish a vision for what I call their “pie” which includes:
FAITH
FAMILY
FITNESS
FINANCES
FRIENDS
FUN
Establishing a vision for each area of your life will lead to lasting success because often times we tend to give our full attention to one area while the others remain lacking.
However, if we establish our vision then set goals for each quarter that make up these 6 areas it tends to lead to lasting success and guess what else?
You’ll never again tweet “I am so bored,” or find yourself scrolling on social media monitoring other people’s lives because you are too busy being productive and minding your own.
Instead of watching Empire, you are in your office developing strategies on how to build your own! - Evaluate Where You Are & Where You Desire to Be: The end of the year is a great time to assess what you have done well in addition to identifying what areas may require your attention and what you need to do differently as you approach the new year.
One thing I do at the end of each year is I evaluate my business model, strategies, staff positions, product launches, events I’ve held; etc and critique how well I executed the vision.
This is where you must be honest with yourself if you desire to experience change. Transformation doesn’t just happen, we must participate in our own rescue and be willing to face the hard truths so our life and business can expand.
Here are two quotes I live by today (both the author is unknown):
“If you always do what you always did, you’ll always get what you always got.” – No proper grammar needed LOL
“Nothing changes, if nothing changes.” – My personal favorite
If either of these speak to you I want you to take a moment and write them on a sticky note and place it on your bathroom mirror so every morning when you brush your teeth you are challenging yourself to dig deeper and make the necessary changes to get from where you are to where you desire to be. - Don’t Give Up on Your End of the Year Goals: You still have time in 2019 to accomplish the goals you set out to do this time last year. One mistake so many make in November is that they become so focused on the upcoming year that they rob themselves of the blessings each day brings.
If you have worked hard all year, accomplished your goals, and are enjoying the fruit of your labor, it’s okay to take some time to rest your mind, body and spirit and enjoy your family and friends that you may not have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with due to your hectic schedule.
The holidays are coming up, and it’s okay to take a few days off to breathe in all that you have accomplished thus far and celebrate even the smallest victories that you somehow overlooked.
If you follow these 3 steps you will be on your way to ending the year strong!!!!!
